Jim Johnson is the founder of Interaction. The practice began as a
concept in 1978, a post office box in 1979, and Jim's first client in 1980. Jim is a native of Lawton
and is married to Kay F. Johnson, a consultant, educator, and author. They have two adult married
children and two grandchildren.
Jim is a graduate of Oklahoma University and did post graduate training at the Erickson Institute
in New Mexico. He is licensed both in Oklahoma and in Texas at the independent practice level. Jim is
also licensed in Oklahoma as a marriage and family therapist. Prior to beginning Interaction, Jim
was a child welfare supervisor. He is currently an adjunct instructor in social work at Oklahoma
University.
He is an active member of First Baptist East in Lawton, where he teaches a young married Sunday
School class, sings in the choir, and plays in the church orchestra. Jim and Kay are frequent leaders
of marriage enrichment seminars in their church. Jim also plays cello in the Oklahoma Baptist
Symphony.
"I believe that a therapist's job can be likened to that of a leader dog. That dog is trained to
help her person get where he/she wants to go without incurring injury. The dog does not know where
or why the master is going doesn't have to! When a person seeks a counseling relationship,
he/she usually knows where he/she would like to be but has lost the vision of how to get there.
My job is to help that person get to where he/she would like to be without stepping in something or
getting hit by a truck."
Currently, Jim works with adolescents through senior adults in individual, couple, and family
therapy. He is especially interested in treating depression, anxiety, and geriatric issues.
If this sounds like it fits your idea of what a therapist should be, appointments can be scheduled
through the office secretary at (580)353-0909. Most insurance is accepted, and we will file the
paper work for you.
